St. John Ambulance Association, the symbol of dedication & devotion, owes its strength from the vigour & energy of perfect soul. It is an International Organisation; people of all over the world carry its Flag on their own shoulder. But we the inhabitants of Barasat had to wait till 1979 when some of the young people under the leadership of Sri Samar Kumar Das started thinking of giving birth of a new centre of St. John Ambulance at Barasat. These Samaritans worked together, made several meetings amongst themselves, took the help of great citizens of the locality and ultimately were able to involve Govt. Administration .Finally the red letter day of this branch was in 1979 when the Foundation ceremony was held at the auditorium at Barasat Govt. College . Thus a branch was born, with no fund to feed it, no shed to shelter it , no means to look after & take care of it. Only endless sacrifice was the never ending strength of these young boys. The fund was raised from donations from common peopl, the well wishers and volunteers & members of this organisation.
But to arrange for shelter was a hard task, it was Mr. Deshbandhu Das ,who was so generous that he made no hesitation in giving almost 50% of his small shop at colony more ,Barasat for the day to day activity of this Organisation . Then Mr. Kajal Chatterjee arranged space for the day to day activity. Late Dr. Mohit Kumar Chattopadhaya ,a man with father like attitude for whole society ,came forward and arranged space in his very busy chamber in colony more , Barasat for this branch .There after we were in a rented room and finally with the co operation of the then Chairman of Barasat Municipality , St. John Ambulance got a land of Barasat Municipality on the western side of Sethpukur , Barasat and  we started to build our own building . Finally the Organisation able to find its permanent address with its own building with the help of Late Dr. Durgadas Mukherjee  , Late Sekahr  Banerjee and from several  well wishers .
Able to acquire a Mobile Medical cum Ambulance Van with a meagre contribution to State Head Quarter in the year 1982 with the help of financial contribution of Dr. Baidyanath Mukherjee . To continue the Ambulance Service since 1982 by changing the vehicle for their machine life, assistance extended by Honorable Ex M.P . Late Subrata Bose , Ex M.P. Late Dr. Ranjit Panja , M.P. Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar  .
This is needless to mention that St. John Ambulance is globally reputed for providing training in different means through First Aid , Home Nursing  etc courses. The Barasat Centre has also earned reputation for its continuous service in imparting training for last 40 years. We have also catered our expertise in several occasions under the invitation of the District Authority. During this  period the organisation have started  motivating  the young generation and people with similar thought  to render  their service to mankind through establishing Ambulance and Nursing Division ( for Boys & Girls ) , participating in Competitions , Survey and relief work , Blood donation Eye operation camps , public duties etc.
All the above were possible by the sincere willingness of the members of the organisation , the Late Rusi. B .Gimi -the then Chairman of West Bengal State Centre  , our Executive Members Late Dr. P.K. Basu , Late Ajoy Mukherjee , Sri Prabir Kumar Sengupta  , Nari Shilpa Mandir  and obviously by the dedicated service  of the volunteers  of this organisation .
We must remember the association of our past Chairman as well as present (ex officio ) ,whose guidance , co operation and willingness leads the organisation to a new height in the state of West Bengal as we are now .
